Overview & purpose

Worship of Goddess Lakshmi for prosperity, peace and wellbeing of the home.

When to perform

Fridays, Deepavali, Varalakshmi Viratham and full-moon days.

Required materials

Lakshmi image, kumkum, turmeric, lotus or other flowers, coins, sweets, lamp.

Step-by-step procedure

Clean the house and draw kolam at the entrance.

Place Lakshmi's image with a kalasam (water pot) if desired.

Offer kumkum and flowers, chanting Lakshmi Ashtottaram or simple names.

Offer sweets and show aarti.

After the pooja

Keep the lamp lit in the evening; share prasadam with family.
